Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 10L Wine Kit

Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 10L Wine KitI have been making wine from Winexpert Vintner's Reserve wine kits for six years. I have never had a failure. The kit comes with excellent and specific instructions. The kit produces approximately 30 750ML bottles of high-quality wine. The cost per bottle is a little more than $2. The quality of the wine is worthy of a bottle that costs ten times as much retail.

More specifically, regarding the Cabernet Sauvignon, I made a batch about four years ago. The taste turned out true with rich body and excellent clarity. If you choose to make the Cab, try not drinking it for several months after bottling, since the wine will mature with age. After a couple years, the taste is even better.

Salted Capers by La Nicchia from Pantelleria, Sicilia

Salted Capers by La Nicchia from Pantelleria, SiciliaForget all those briney jars sporting "NONPAREIL" on their labels. This is the real deal. From that hot volcanic rock off the coast of Sicily, Pantalleria, these are capers to provoke a caper of your own. I found them in Italy. Five stars for Pantalleria capers which go with caviar.

These are the most intensely flavored buds in the business. I use these salted capers in sauces including a lemon caper butter sauce for my veal. Using only the salt that clings to them, the sauce is stunning and different from sauce using other caper brands that are not Pantalleria or are stored in brine. Brine is the withering enemy; and additives other than salt distort the flavor. For most dishes, you will rinse away the salt, or save it, because whatever you made is already salted. But beware, you kill capers if you cook them. Just add the capers after you turn the heat off. The heat from a warm pan is plenty.

I'll admit, these are more expensive. You can get good capers in salt from elsewhere including some nice Spanish ones. I will use those more often. But for special service, I reach for these. Nice to have them available here.

But I think I like the ones in brine better. These were really salty even when I washed them twice. Won't buy again probably.

I use capers a lot and was looking for small salted capers for those dishes where the caper must be presented whole. These fit the bill perfectly providing perfect taste and size. Four stars only because of cost being a tad higher than need be.

Pedro Romero Prestige Reserva Sherry Vinegar (12.68 oz/375 ml)

Pedro Romero Prestige Reserva Sherry VinegarWe have discovered exceptional sherry vinegar, unique in its composition

and its lineage. It is made of Palomino grapes in Sanlúcar de Barrameda,

the exclusive source of light, dry Manzanilla sherry -the favorite of

aficionados throughout the world.

If you normally use one of the variety of "balsamic" wine vinegars, or cider

vinegar, you will be delighted with this new dimension you will add to your

cuisine. It has a bright zesty flavor, which is perfect for salads, and

vinaigrette dressings. It adds depth to soups and stews. Its commanding 7%

acidity means that a little bit provides a huge amount of rich flavor.

This exquisite Pedro Romero 'Prestige' Reserva Manzanilla Sherry Vinegar

comes from a long history of fine sherry vinegars stretching back for

generations within one of the original families who liberated the area

from the Moors in the 15th Century. It is made via the Solera process where

the mother vinegar is strengthened and refreshed each year by integrating

new generations of vinegar into the ancient base.

Over the years, the Valdespino family earned the reputation for producing

superlative sherry vinegar fermented in individual 500-liter oak casks.

After the fermentation had completely run its course and cold weather set

in, family members tasted each cask to make a selection. The result is

a fabled vinegar with hundreds of years of history.

In the sixteenth century, the Hapsburg Emperor Charles V (Carlos I of Spain),

sent Sanlúcar vinegars to Rome and the leading European Courts of France,

England, Scotland, Germany, Austria, Russia, and Poland. Be a part of history,
