Grana Padano Stravecchio Oro del Tempo - Pound Cut (1 pound) by igourmet

For those who have not had this excellent cheese, it may be helpful to compare Stravecchio Oro del Tempo, Grana Padano, which is relatively obscure outside of Italy, with cheeses that English-speakers may have had the good fortune to try. It is a hard aged cheese, in my opinion more like Regiano Parmesan than anything made in North America. It has sort of crystalline fracture lines in it, and is quite tangy, which makes it offset fruit nicely, but as it is hard as well as tangy, it does beautifully in place of more ordinary grating cheeses such as Romano or Parmesan. Some very old cheddars are a little bit like that, but North American cheddars are never this hard and grainy. It has bursting hard crystals of lactic acid and milk sugars.

I still have warm memories of Grana, pears, and Grappa, my favorite after-dinner treat when I lived in Italy. Grana is like a crumbly cheddar, but milder and more distinctive. If you are wild about pears, Grana is the perfect accompaniment, but it's luscious with apples and grapes, too.

Spoilable cheese was shipped with 1 sandwich size icepack. Not kept cold and cheese was mouldy. I had to toss it. Only neeted more ice.

Prima Donna Cheese (8oz or 1lb)

This cheese has a very strong flavor since it is aged very long. Almost too strong for my taste, but otherwise a very excellent cheese, as you would expect an imported cheese from Holland to be. So if you like aged Gouda then give this a try.

Darjeeling is the tea of teas, and while we from time to time will buy the best of the best single estate Darjeeling, Taylors is our daily cup. It is a reliable clean tasting tea, but it can be sensitive to brewing method and tea/water ratio, so vary that a bit until you find it to your taste.

I find this brand too robust, lacking the delicate floral flavour more typically associated with Darjeeling teas. I rate it inferior to Mighty Leaf, Harney & Sons, and Twinings. Might as well stick to English Breakfast!

Reserve Du Chateau 4 Week Wine Kit, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, 17.5-Pound Box

This is a fruity, light, and slightly sweet wine that is a surprise to everyone who tries it. The kit is complete with corks, labels and shrink caps. The instructions are clear and fairly straight forward. This is a great one to subscribe to--I get mine every six months, alternating with the Cabernet Sauvignon for a nice contrast. Highly Recommended.

I cannot say anything about the final product but it was ordered and arrived at my home in record time. Nice packaging and everything was in the box. I put it together in the primary and will now just wait. I have been making wine for a while and this will be my first kit.*UPDATE* Okay, since making my review I have finished and bottled the wine. We made our own wine labels. The wine ended up a very, very clear light gold. Beautiful finish with the typical Sauvignon Blanc nose. The wine has the green taste of a new wine which I do not expect to last long as whites age it out quickly. This was an excellent purchase for the price. I have just ordered the Sangiovese kit and will be attempting it next.

I ordered the Sauvignon Blanc in two styles, Ontario and New Zeland. I was surprised when I got the kits and opened them up. I have made about 20 of the Vino Italiano wine kits. These kits are identical with the same labels, ingredients,corks,packaging. The only difference is these kits are 17.5 lbs. The labels just say Sauvignon Blanc and do not specify the types. These kits are also 8 10 dollars more. I have made the Vino Italiano Sauvignon Blanc wine kit and thought it was great. I wondered why I was not able to find the kit again, and now I know why.

I hope this wine is just as great and will be interested to see if there is any noticeable difference in the two kinds. Thought this might be helpful to others as the Vino Italiano kits have been such a great value and it appears that the Reserve Du Chateau and Vino Italiano are maybe one in the same.
