Campbell's Skillet Sauces, 9-Ounce Pouches

Campbell's Skillet Sauces, Scampi with White Wine and Garlic, 9-Ounce PouchesI have been trying new products every time I see them on the shelf. So far I have tried three out of the five varieties they come in and I have the others to try soon. The reviews on this product are very negative and not very accurate in my opinion. The pouches are only the sauce and you can choose what type of meat to add which in my opinion is great because I hate when meat is included because it tastes like dog food. Many of the pouches call for chicken but it actually tastes better if you use pork loin which is very similar to chicken except that it is not as dry and doesnt absorb all the flavor of the sauce. The marsala one actually tastes better with beef it adds to the flavor tremendously. The quality is above expected for the price. I enjoy them and it costs less than it would to get the ingredients and make your own but a good rule of thumb is to salt and pepper to taste.

I bought the toasted sesame with garlic and ginger skillet sauce. It was okay, nothing spectacular. I thought the flavors could have been more bold or flavorful. I probably would not buy this product again unless I had a coupon.

Look, others will say it sucks ect ect, But it is a pouch that is an all in one.

At the price, you pair the Chicken Marsala one how I did during a power outage.. it works really well, and frankly while not fantastic.. it was fine for a quick meal.

What I did was the max of cheapness, (I had no power due to Hurricane Sandy) 1 can of chicken breasts (the sandwich ones) 1 pouch of this, 1 box of pasta in the serving 3min bags. Used a fire to boil (more like heat it up just enough but never boiled) and made the pasts, then drained pot thrwe in the chicken pasta and this sauce and kept over the fire for a few min till it was hot.

Look it worked. Gave me and my wife a meal for about 5$, So compare it to its competitors, Spam, Stew in a can, ect.. it was on par and just fine. If however your expecting high quality meal.. you my friend are oblivious to reality.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program We ate this over angel hair with some steamed veggies. If we weren't eating it for a review we would have added more seasoning. Soy sauce is the predominant flavor. There is maybe a hint of sweetness, but the garlic and ginger were extremely subtle at best. I didn't taste much toasted sesame. Our kids (ages 9 and 5) loved this, but my wife and I thought it was pretty bland.

It is quite handy for a quick meal though. All you need is some chicken to go with some rice or noodles and you're in business. I don't think it took more than 15 minutes for my wife to prepare this. In retrospect, we should have started with a little oil, chopped onions, fresh minced garlic, and grated fresh ginger before cooking up the chicken. Some fresh sesame seeds would have helped as well.

This is a fine sauce if you do not like a lot of flavor in your food. If you do then you will need to jazz this up a little bit.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This time around; I plead GUILTY! I did not follow the directions on the package, I decided to do my own revision of a "Porcupines" or as my (ex) husband used to call it; "Road Kill Casserole" it is really simple; if you have a slow cooker or crock pot; you can make this over night especially for that busy woman or even for as Emril LaGasse would say "Horse Divers" :-D .... MMMMMMMMMMM TASTY!

So what EXACTLY DID I DO?

Prepare or if you already made ahead of time precooked rice and have it in freezer:

1.5 lb Lean Ground Beef or Chuck (70% or higher)

* OPTIONAL 1 link of medium or hot Italian Sausage; cut casting and squeeze meat out

2 eggs (discard 1 yolk but keep both egg whites)

1/3 tspn Oregano

1/3 tspn Basil

1 very small can of finally chopped Tomato with Peppers (if you like Spicy go for it)

1 Package of Lipton Onion Soup Mix or Onion with Mushroom Mix

Your Choice of Pepper (Black, Mixed, or Red Flaked if you like it a little spicy)

1 cup of Cooked Rice or Rice Blend

*** OPTIONAL ITEMS to add in Slow Cooker or Pot:

Potty-Bellos (my son calls those mushrooms that) aka Portabello they are better than button

mushrooms; you only need one big one or two medium ones; brush dry (do not wash. Slice in Julienne

Strips leaving skin on as well as gills; for much of the flavor will be there

Garlic-Maniacs you can always chop up some more GAAAAAAAAARLLLLLLICCCCC and layer in

bottom of slow cooker or crock pot (do not mix with the Porcupines); but do add just a tiny

bit of olive oil just a little dab of it; mix it up good on bottom for it will cook along

the way.

Shallots or Vadellia Onions; chopped finely and set aside (cover if using for next day)

Your Favorite Pepper Pobalano to Jalapeno; tips, rinds, seeds removed (remember, the

hotter the pepper ---> keep hands out of eyes, use Coconut Milk to wash hands or Coco-

Butter Lotion after washing hands or wear gloves if you are sensitive. Set aside. (cover

if using for next day) another option is using Your Favorite Hot Sauce in lieu of

Peppers but it won't provide you the texture and interest on your dinner plate.

*** notice the salt is missing from this ingredient it is because there is salt in the

Lipton's Onion Soup Mix or Onion with Mushroom Mix ***

Mix in Slow Cooker or Crock Pot until everything is blended and allow to rest in refrigerator

for at least half hour. I often spray my hands with Pam Spray or Butter when I roll the Porcupines

because they will not stick all over you.

(No Mess, No Bowls, No Fuss!)

Roll into small 1¼ to 1½ balls, it is okay to stack them up while you work in rolling with

palm of your hands into balls and you will begin to see why they called them "Porcupines"

in the olden days because of the rice giving them the appearance of a spines and it's perfectly

fine if the rice are sticking out (Who has never seen a Porcupine with no long needle-like spine

sticking out?) just let them be. This is also fun for the children to make as well.

You can prepare this the day ahead and cover it with cellophane paper and the lid and

refrigerate it. If you elect to do so just follow the directions below as if you were

to make this at home.

-------------------------------------

If in refrigerator (remove everything out of refrigerator and place on counter-top); if

making fresh; stir garlic one more time in olive oil even though Porcupines are in there

very gently. Set Slow Cooker or Crock Pot at its lowest setting.

If using OPTIONAL ingredients; add them and turn gently with spoon.

Pour in the finely diced or chopped small can of Tomato (with or without Spicy Peppers);

add half can of water, pour into Crock Pot / Slow Cooker.

Open Campbell's Skillet Sauces, Marsala with Mushrooms and Garlic, 9-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 8)

One or Two packages (depending on how much meat you have used) pour entire package on top of all the

Porcupines in the Crock Pot / Slow Cooker.

Cook at its lowest setting for 6 to 8 hours until done.

=================================================

Serves 4-5 people

I usually serve this with Steamed Broccoli or some steamed veggies OR I would plate them

with fresh salad on the side or

Balsamic Tomatoes with Mozzarella:

Small handful of your favorite mixed greens (e.g. Baby Salad Leaves Mix)

2 Large Tomatoes, cut into 3 to 4 cm thick

Sliced Mozzarella Cheese

After cutting tomatoes, place on plate with Balsamic Vinegar and lightly drizzle it and set

aside in refrigerator for at least 10 minutes for flavors to develop.

Arrange on plate the hot food first, then the leafy greens, lay out three or four balsamic

tomatoes in a row, then one long strip of thinly sliced mozzarella cheese.

Expensive Restaurant Eating Made Simple Where YOUR KIDS and GRANDKIDS WILL EAT IT and ASK FOR MORE!

==============================================================

For those using the Porcupines for "Horse Divers"; you will need more meat and at least 4 packages

of Campbell's Skillet Sauces, Marsala with Mushrooms and Garlic, 9-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 8) plus

usage of fancy toothpicks like these: Sword Picks for "Party Fun" and easy access rather

than a spoon. 100% Guaranteed that pot will be empty before the "end of the line" ever gets to it! If this is

the case, you do not want to add the "Optional" features except the Portabello Mushrooms that have been

julienne for that special touch; or save one cap and cut a "V" with 2 Green Onions carefully snipped on

bottom and trimmed in an angle for that festive touch for a "Show Off" spectacular festive touch!

:-D

PS: But of course you're not going to share anyone your "Secret Recipe" Are you?
