Cheerwine Soda Fridge Pack (24 unit pack)

Cheerwine Soda Fridge PackCheerwine is a regional soda from North Carolina, that has expanded into 12 other southeast states in the last 8 years. Started in 1917, Cheerwine was first formulated in the basement of L. D. Peeler's wholesale grocery store. Created during prohibition when it was common to name sodas after liquors. The owner added a new cherry flavor syrup to his previous soda and cheerwine was born. Believe it or his great grandsons still run the company.

The bergundy red soft drink has a nice mellow cherry flavor, and the color is really a pretty burgundy color, almost like wine. It is more subtle and seems less sweet on the palate than the grocery store house brands of cherry soda. No aftertaste or bite. There is also a diet version. They are also sold locally in bottles as well as the cans you see here. It is easy to see why the locals in North Carolina rave about this "Nectar of the Carolinas". Another hard to find drink from this company is "Cool Moon", a citrus flavored pop.

The soda deserves a 5/5 just for it's wonderful taste. I find myself ordering Cheerwine from time to time just to taste the soda of my childhood. The only reason that I am rating this product so low is because of the incorrect information on the Amazon page. You are paying for 2 12 packs, not 4. I was more than happy to pay the listed price, + shipping, for 48 cans, but not for 24. Will buy from the company instead next time.

Cheerwine soda has been a southern tradition since it was first introduced in Sailsbury, North Carolina in 1917. Like other southern sodas (e.g., Royal Crown), Cheerwine is a little sweeter and less heavily carbonated. Don't leave the lid off bottles of Cheerwine for long it will go completely flat. The taste is mellow and unusual, not at all like cherry cola or cherry 7UP more like cream soda with cherries added. I first tasted Cheerwine when I moved to North Carolina a few years ago; it was unlike any other soda I'd had before, and I buy it often now.

Today, Cheerwine is available throughout the South and serves as the perfect accompaniment to a humid summer day. The company even has a website with recipes, including a rather tasty-sounding BBQ sauce. If you're looking for a good old-fashioned taste of the South, try out this appealing soda.

I spent a few years living in North Carolina and still get cravings for this soda (not too mention the ice cream sold in a few super markets). This is not a cola at all. The color is pink and the flavor is all cherry. This does not taste like Cherry 7up or Ginger Ale, but fans of those sodas may well enjoy Cheerwine. Between Cheerwine and Royal Crown Cola, the classic taste of the south comes through.

We moved from NC to AZ a few years ago, and one of the biggest things my husband missed was his Cheerwine. I never looked to see if it could be shipped, because honestly, who ships soda? We were both really missing home today, on a whim, I went to the Cheerwine site. I think I'm still partially deaf from the hoopla that ensued when I saw that it could be delivered. People not from the south may not understand the draw of Cheerwine, but there is nothing else like it, and we've tried it all. It's not just cherry soda; it's how it's made, the taste of the water, the smells in the air that all flavor the ingredients in a way that can not be reproduced.
