Over the past seven years I've made several shiraz wines from various wine kits. The "Australian Shiraz" in the World Vineyard series put out by Winexpert turned out to be surprisingly good. Although the World Vineyard series is not one of their high-end series (the Eclipse series taking that honor) the wines of this more affordable series are excellent in their own right. Moreover, they're really easy to make and shouldn't require more than three hours of your time over the four week period from the initial mixing to bottling. Plus, they are designed to be ready to drink fairly quickly. Winexpert suggests a two-month minimum aging prior to drinking. (Of course, it's always a good idea to let some of the bottles age for longer, since the wine will continue to develop for as much as a year after bottling.)
The Autralian Shiraz is a dry medium-body read with light oak intensity. A full-flavored wine, one will notice the flavor of black fruits and spice on the palate. Serve with full-flavored beef dishes.
