I've traveled in Germany many times, and have enjoyed their Gluhwein many times.

My father-in-law recommended this brand, that he'd had in Scandanavia, and I must say it's even better that the German version!

I served it (mixed with German sweet red wine) to a NATO officer living here, and he admitted he'd only once tasted a version as good.

I suppose if you had the recipe, you could make the stuff at home for less money but good luck finding a recipe this good!

Gluhwein is a staple in Germany during the cold months. Freshly brewed, steaming hot, the blend of spices and warm wine invigorates the entire body. This spice blend, once blended, is as close as you can get to strolling down ancient streets in quaint European towns and savoring the holiday season.

Marukan Seasoned Gourmet Rice Vinegar

Marukan Seasoned Gourmet Rice VinegarThis rice vinegar is absolutely the best salad dressing just as is... low in calories and delicious. I also puree raspberries (either fresh or frozen) and add to the vinegar. Best to strain out the larger seeds, and it makes the most delightful raspberry vinaigrette ever. I've even tried it with fresh strawberries (no straining needed) which is a completely different taste but equally delicious.

The low rating is not for the product, but rather for the price -$11.99 for a 12 oz. bottle when I can, and do, buy the identical product for $4.09 at Safeway, less than a mile from me. For anyone who is completely unable to locate it I'd say: "Get it even at this price," but in my case, I'd be a total fool.

I use it on sushi rice when I am making Californina Sushi Rolls, or Fruit Sushi Rolls. It has a nice flavor in the rice.

Blush (Vintner's Reserve)

BlushI have been making wine from wine kits for six years. During that time I have made close to 40 different batches of wine. For the most part I've made various reds and some whites. Not too long ago I decided to try the Vintner's Reserve blush. I did this because I've always had excellent results with the Vintner's Reserve kits. I was not disappointed. This is a great blush, one that goes especially good with seafoods or as a refreshing drink on a warm evening.

The Vintner's Reserve wine kits are easy to make. It's a four-step process that begins with mixing, followed a week or so later by racking from the primary fermenter into the carboy. (If possible, purchase a plastic carboy. They are far lighter in weight and therefore easier to use.) Two weeks or so after that comes adding the stabilizing agents and degassing the wine. In another three weeks or so the wine is ready to bottle. (It's not a bad idea to do a secondary-racking during that three-week period to ensure greater clarity, but it's not absolutely necessary.) Each step takes somewhere around half an hour (except the bottling, which is closer to an hour), including the sanitizing of the equipment and cleanup.

So, in six or seven weeks from when you open the kit you'll have approximately 30 750ML bottles of wine, which cost less than $2.50 each, but are the quality of wines that retail at several times that amount. The biggest problem is patience: You'll be tempted to start drinking the wine immediately. Wait a few months. It gets better with age.

Bassetts Jelly Babies 215gr (7.6oz) Bag

Bassetts Jelly Babies 215gr BagWe tried these because of my daughters interest in all things Doctor Who , and as most fans of the show know, the Fourth Doctor always had them. Living in the states, you can't buy them here, so when I found them on Amazon, I jumped at getting them. We weren't disappointed, they are different from any jelly type candy we've eaten. They are a little grainy in texture but softer than any gum candy, and the flavors are natural. This is the only brand (Bassett's) we have tried, and they are supposed to be the best. The shipping is a bit pricey because they're imported, so if you order, order several bags while your at it.

I've munched on these most of my life and haven't regretted a single calorie.

If they are good enough for a Time Lord, they are certainly good enough for me.

Everyone mentions these sweets along with the fourth Doctor Who,

it's a shame no one remembers the fact they are first offered by the second.

A word of caution, don't have too many at one time. (They're very filling.)

(If you like these why not try Bassett's "Liquorice Allsort's" the Doctors sweet of choice in "The Sunmakers".)

Similar to a gummy candy and as different as mike & ikes. Jelly babys have a delicious sugary crust and a softer inside. Whether vegging out watching tv or attempting to break the ice with your alien captors, Jelly Babies fit the bill. Crinkly bit of wax paper/wax paper bag not included.

Like others, I heard about this candy from Doctor Who (4th Doctor). The moment I had one bag, I began to order even more. To anyone who wants to buy these Jelly Babies, order 2 or 3 bags. You won't be disappointed by the taste. This is what I call a candy. I'm SO ordering more in the future. If I ever got fat from eating these, I would have no regrets.
