Bounty of Flavor Gourmet Food Picnic Hamper Gift Basket

I was given the duty of picking a gift basket out for my sister-in-law, after looking at all the baskets on Amazon, I chose this one. At first I was looking for Prime shipping, then what each basket had.

I was nervous at first because I've seen other baskets before and they usually had real cheap items in them, but when my sister-in-law received it in 2 days, she loved the gift basket. She said all the food in the basket were 1st class, she was worried she would eat all the food before her husband got home from the Middle East next week.Great gift basket, will order again whenever I need a really nice gift.

The thing that had attracted me to this and that distinguished it from other baskets was the picnic hamper. The hamper, however, turned out to be flimsy and either badly designed or badly assembled. The simple act of opening the lid caused damage, because one handle obstructed the lid in back, such that lifting the lid gouged out some material. It's not like I had to lift hard either; the wood was simply weak enough to take damage instead of resisting the obstruction. The handles fit so tightly around the basket that it was a challenge to lift them into a carrying position. I tried to be very careful around the flimsy hinges with their flimsy mounting, but I managed to tear one off anyway, which damaged the wood behind it. Despite my attempt to be careful, the lid was almost useless before we got out the door with it. I had hoped to wind up with a reusable hamper (a "handy picnic basket for many years to come"), but we didn't get to use it even once.

My disappointment with the contents was that I could have done as well or better with a quick trip to the grocery store. For example, the "Camembert" was marked "cheese product" and didn't resemble the picture on the box. The crackers were just like those I can find on the shelf at Safeway. The sausage was acceptable, but again, I could have done as well at Safeway. There wasn't any "premium gourmet goodness" like the description says.

For the same money, or even less, I could have bought and stocked an actual picnic hamper with the same or better food.

Grey Poupon Dijon Mustard, Mild & Creamy, 10-Ounce Squeezable Bottles (Pack of 6)

My dietitian recommended this instead of mayonnaise on sandwiches. I was only allowed to use mustard on my sandwiches on my low calorie diet and I got sick of the taste regular of mustard pretty quick. This is not sharp like mustard its more creamy like mayo. It keeps a sandwich from tasting dry. I hate a dry sandwichs. Its not mayo but it is a reasonable facsimile.Amazon was the only place I found it but you have to buy six jars. So I did. Now I am sick of it too. The diet, not the mustard. I shared it with my relatives. If you need to cut calories and hate dry sandwiches ,give it a try.

... for those of us counting Weight Watcher points, it's a find. I've been using it on sandwiches and in coleslaw instead of mayonnaise and adding a dab of real Dijon to kick up the flavor. Zero calories, zero fat, zero carbs? I'm in.

As for amazon sending expired food items, that's inexcusable but not Grey Poupon's fault.

I use this mustard a lot. I love the taste, the name says it all, mild and creamy not a strong taste. I like it on a variety of foods, for example: in devil eggs, on cheese and crackers, brats, and hot dogs. I have had a hard time finding it on grocery shelves lately and have requested that the stores I shop put it back on their shelves. I was so happy to find it on Amazon.

This is the good stuff. It doesn't have that mustard kick, but it is smooth and flavorful! In credibly flavorful. It is my favorite "dipping" mustard, and I eat it straight up. Great on crudites!

Sherry Wine Vinegar from Jerez - Low acidity - 25.4oz

I first came to sherry vinegar because it is milder than the normal grocery-store plonk; I had in mind using less olive oil and therefore freighting in fewer calories. And it is good for that. But bear in mind that because it is not as acidic you might use more if you're looking for sourness, but the sherry taste is good.

But I've found another use for it, a French technique. Finish reduction sauces with a shot of it, and it adds a great depth of flavor. If you want to blow the calories you've saved on the oil, mount the sauce at the end with butter too. Add a shot of this vinegar to stews too; a normal vinegar might be too overpowering but the sherry vinegar merely adds flavor.

I buy it by the case.

I started using sherry vinegar for salad dressing after reading a Mark Bittman recommendation. I tried this brand first and like it enough that I'm sticking with it when re-ordering. I use 1/3 each soy sauce, olive oil and this product, and, sometimes salt, pepper, and herbs.

Right now, wonderful with summer fruit salads.

French Tarragon Vinegar - 25.4oz - (Pack of 3)

I went to at least eight different grocery and specialty stores and couldn't find tarragon vinegar. Finally found it here. Shipping was reasonably priced and arrived very timely and it's very good vinegar. It contributed greatly to the mustard recipe I needed it for.

Last Year a friend got me a bottle of this vinegar, I use it for my green beans. I was unable to find tarragon vinegar in any supermarket in my area. I was almost out and could not find the phone number of my friend that gave it to me. So I went on line and found the exact one and ordered it. It has to be the best Tarragon Vinegar I have ever had.
