Bounty of Flavor Gourmet Food Picnic Hamper Gift Basket

Art of Appreciation Gift Baskets Bounty of Flavor Gourmet Food Picnic HamperI was given the duty of picking a gift basket out for my sister-in-law, after looking at all the baskets on Amazon, I chose this one. At first I was looking for Prime shipping, then what each basket had.

I was nervous at first because I've seen other baskets before and they usually had real cheap items in them, but when my sister-in-law received it in 2 days, she loved the gift basket. She said all the food in the basket were 1st class, she was worried she would eat all the food before her husband got home from the Middle East next week.Great gift basket, will order again whenever I need a really nice gift.

The thing that had attracted me to this and that distinguished it from other baskets was the picnic hamper. The hamper, however, turned out to be flimsy and either badly designed or badly assembled. The simple act of opening the lid caused damage, because one handle obstructed the lid in back, such that lifting the lid gouged out some material. It's not like I had to lift hard either; the wood was simply weak enough to take damage instead of resisting the obstruction. The handles fit so tightly around the basket that it was a challenge to lift them into a carrying position. I tried to be very careful around the flimsy hinges with their flimsy mounting, but I managed to tear one off anyway, which damaged the wood behind it. Despite my attempt to be careful, the lid was almost useless before we got out the door with it. I had hoped to wind up with a reusable hamper (a "handy picnic basket for many years to come"), but we didn't get to use it even once.

My disappointment with the contents was that I could have done as well or better with a quick trip to the grocery store. For example, the "Camembert" was marked "cheese product" and didn't resemble the picture on the box. The crackers were just like those I can find on the shelf at Safeway. The sausage was acceptable, but again, I could have done as well at Safeway. There wasn't any "premium gourmet goodness" like the description says.

For the same money, or even less, I could have bought and stocked an actual picnic hamper with the same or better food.

Cornucopia Fruit Wine Making Kit, Raspberry Merlot, 16.4-Pound Box

Cornucopia Fruit Wine Making Kit, Raspberry Merlot, 16.4-Pound BoxI don't mind sweeter wines like a Riesling, but I don't usually go so much for fruit flavored wines like this, but this wine has changed my mind. This is a great summer sipper or party wine. Actually more of a gulper. It's so light and smooth, that you'll end up going through a bottle before you know it. So be warned...You might feel something cold on your face and you look up, and it's the floor. I'm just saying.

Now for the technical stuff:

I reconstituted this one to somewhere between 5 1/2 and 6 gallons. I meant to make a little less, but messed up. At that level it came out to a little less than 9% ABV, which I think is a little light. I would recommend reconstituting it closer to 5 gallons, because I believe it can handle the extra alcohol without affecting its drinkability. Ideally I'd say measure the specific gravity as you're adding the water and shoot for the middle of the suggested range. If you go this route, you'll need to add water, mix thoroughly, then measure. And you'll need to repeat that each time you add more water, until you get to the desired SG. If you don't mix it well, then your readings may not be accurate. After all steps were completed I left it in the carboy for about 2 weeks longer, then bottled and let it age for about 1 month. That was all it took, and it was ready to drink. I chill this one for about 20 minutes before drinking. I know it's a red, but this is more of a wine cocktail in my opinion and it really makes it refreshing.

The Rating:

The only reason I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 was due to how low the alcohol content would be if you mixed it to the full 6 gallons per the instructions. If you add a little less water though, you'll be in good shape. It also came with labels, corks and plastic heat shrink capsules for the top. Definitely worth the price and I plan to make it again...soon.

We have purchased this exact kit from amazon in the past. This kit was great, every function we went to we brought a bottle and it was a big hit. Everybody loved it. If you are new to wine making this kit has everything you need to make and bottle your wine, but you must have all of the associated supplies already example the bottles, carboy, hydrometer, and corker.

I didn't want to make this per directions after reading reviews on how sweet this was. I made this to right at 5 gallons including the addition of a little Everclear to boost ABV. I used half the F-pack during the initial fermentation process so it wouldn't be über sweet at bottling time. Wonderful raspberry flavor. So very pleased with Cornucopia. I have the Blueberry Shiraz fermenting now. I'm going to try a few others before the year is out.

Vincotto Vinegar, Raspberry Selection - Pack of 3

Wine-A-Rita Mix-It-Up: Five Delicious Margarita Flavor Packets - Make a Great Drink with Mix, Ice,

Wine-A-Rita Mix-It-Up: Five Delicious Margarita Flavor Packets - Make a Great Drink with Mix, Ice, Wine and a BlenderThis was a great Mother's Day gift. The packaging is unique, very artful, and well designed. Inside are different pouches for each of the Wine-a-Rita flavors. The box is substantial it feels great wrapped up in wrapping paper. Also the Wine-a-Rita people had the foresight to put two different types of recipes on the box: one for wine and one for hard alcohol. Brilliant move in my opinion. My mom is not the biggest liquor drinker, so now she can make iced drinks with wine as the base rather than hard alcohol. Though other reviews state that they only received the drink pouches in a plastic bag, this was not the case for my purchase. I will update this review if we tinker with the recipes.

I bought these and yes they do come in plastic bags with a label on each but also included was a five sided box that you can fold together that has a picture of each flavor, one on each side. It makes a cute little colorful box, nice to give as a gift if you put it together.

I bought this for friend and they are very good. I bought one bottle of each the wines for the mix to go with it. You need a red, a white and a sparkling. Not having used all the mixes yet, But it should be enough to make them all without additional purchases.

My mother loves her wine. I got this gift for her to mix with her favorite wine for a variety. She loved the idea and she enjoys the flavors.

This is definitely a "Girl's Alcoholic Slushy." There are 6 different flavors, and you can use any wine you choose. The package directions are for an entire blender of slush. I have found that using a Tablespoon or two at a time makes just enough for one person. Good stuff. Have not found anyone who does not like this product.

Wine.com Simply Indulgent Gift Basket

Wine.com Simply Indulgent Gift BasketCustomer review from the Amazon Vine Program Um, I really hate saying this, especially when it's supposed to be a gift. When I got the box, I was rather excited, because the box was pretty big, and the basket looked really good when I took it out and saw all the pretty packages. Soon, I was wondering whether my eyes were deceiving me.

When I picked up the first package, one of Vanilla Caramels (my favorite), it seemed strangely lightweight. When I opened the packet, I discovered why: the rather large cardboard package contained 15 small (one inch square) candies. As I looked through all the other treats, one theme remained nearly constant that the boxes were much too big for their contents, and that the contents themselves weren't as good as we expected.

A 4.75" x 6.75" box of chocolate chip cookies contained 2 oz of tiny, hard and crumbly yellow cookies containing two chips each. Actually, that's a slight exaggeration: we found one cookie with three chips, which we averaged with a one-chip cookie. They tasted like no other chocolate chip cookies I have had before.

One of the larger boxes contained smoked salmon. Two ounces of smoked salmon. I can't count on its quality, because two ounces of smoked salmon is two ounces too many for my family, but the salmon had a lot of room in its package. So did a package of chocolate non-pareils which my husband tried and deemed "weird. They don't taste like any chocolate I've had before." To their credit, they nearly filled the packet at 5 oz, unlike the package of chocolate roll cookies, a real lightweight at 0.9 oz.

A very large package, by comparison, contained Jelly Belly Jellybeans. They were consistent with the Jelly Belly Jellybeans I've enjoyed before, but the package contained less than the small bags I buy at the store. It was larger than most of its basket-mates at 4 ounces. Both the Jellybeans and some Ghiradelli Chocolate and Caramel Squares (5.3 oz) and Candy Bar (1.15 oz) were from brands I recognized and were as tasty as I expected.

There were other items in the basket, making it look very full and generous, including 5 oz honey roasted peanuts, 4 oz Pepper Jack, Beef (Sausage? it didn't say, but it was 5 oz), 1.79 oz Honey Hot Mustard, 2 oz Sesame Crackers, 7oz Almond Biscotti, and 4 oz Butter Cookies. These followed the same pattern of food packaged by munchkins in relatively big boxes.

I can't say that this would make me happy either as a giver or a recipient. The item quality is not very good and the quantity is positively stingy. For the amount of money this basket costs, I could purchase several delicious options from Amazon's grocery store and deliver them without a basket. My friends and family would be much happier that way.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program To be clear, this product for flavor alone would get 3-4 stars, but I have to take into account the price, and as such was expecting quite a bit more out of it.

Pros:

Decent variety of item (salmon, honey roasted nuts, cheese, chocolates, crackers)

Basket and presentation are pretty good, and could be used as a present

Cons:

The typical price hovers around $100, I can't see how anyone would pay more than $40 for it because:

Sure there is salmon (but 2 ounces of it)

The chocolates are not a fancy unique brand, they are different variations of Ghirardelli that you can buy at any grocery store. (at least here in the northwest)

In all, you get 6 pounds of food and a decent basket (not sure what id use it for though). Basically, you're paying like $16 a pound, for maybe slgihtly above average products, but nothing spectacular. With lots of filler candy...

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a huge basket full of a lot of nice foods. The backet everything comes in is a nice willow/wicker combination and is extremely well made. The food itself runs the gambit from awesome (Jelly Bellys, a nice sausage, a great mustard and some fine pepper jack cheese) to the mediocre (the honey roasted peanuts, vanilla caramels and crackers) to two downright TERRIBLE things (almond biscotti and the worst chocolate chip cookies I have ever had).

You get a TON of food in this basket and even after a week and a half, we still have a lot of the basket left to nibble on. The presentation is wonderful and the majority of the foods within will sate the appetite of most folks. Any basket with this much variety will always have one or two things someone doesn't like, so hopefully those in your household will find something to enjoy in this basket. For example, neither the wife nor I wanted the salmon, but the cat sure did!

All in all this is a terrific basket and one I could see myself purchaing for a holiday or housewarming present.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I tend to be fairly pragmatic when it comes to gourmet gift baskets. They always seem like a great idea, but oftentimes fail to live up to the price valuation placed on them. As someone who frequently purchases gift baskets (I average four to six a year and at one time procured hundreds as corporate gifts), I was actually pleasantly surprised by this offering from Wine.com. While I did receive this product free of charge, my evaluation is based on the same criteria I would use had I purchased this as a premium gift. Last year, I received a complimentary basket from Back Mountain Baskets (represented through the igourmet label) that I awarded the lowest possible rating due to amateurish packaging and a lack of luxury products. So again, I'd like to commend Wine.com for the appearance of the Simply Indulgent Basket. When you purchase a gift basket, two things are relatively certain: 1) you're going to overpay for what's actually included, and (2) at least you're going to get something presentable and of gift quality. And this, at least, looks expensive and will represent the giver in a positive light!

Basket: I received exactly the basket pictured in the sample photograph (this is oftentimes not the case, and doesn't matter to me as long as the substituted one is presentable). It is extremely sturdy, simple, and classic enough that the user can surely repurpose it.

Wrap/Packaging: The basket was tightly secured in a just right packing box that seemed made to insure no slippage during transit. The basket was wrapped in tightly fitting cellophane (no tears or unsightly pockets) with a big professional looking gold bow. Very elegant. Furthermore, the assortment inside were placed perfectly and secured (in some instances) with tape to insure that everything looked just right when the gift is opened. It simply looked expensive.

Contents: I was pleased with the contents. I might not have selected everything included individually and didn't love everything, but that's part of the gift basket experience--to sample brands/items you would not ordinarily. Aside from Ghiradelli and Jelly Belly, the other product brands were less common and definitely had an upscale feel. Although there is some variation (I suspect), my basket included 15 items: Chocolate Non-Pareils, Ghiradelli Chocolate Squares, Partners Sesame Crackers, Almond anise Biscotti, Chocolate Milano Biscotti, Sweet Butter Cookies, Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies, Chocolate Pastry Straws, Jelly Belly Jellybeans, Vanilla Caramel, Smoked Salmon, Honey Roasted Peanuts, Beef Sausage, Pepperjack Cheese, and Spicy Mustard. It's a basket that favors the sweet tooth for sure.

Value: As I mentioned, the cost of any gift basket surely exceeds its content value. You are paying for the experience as much as anything. With its luxurious presentation, this is upscale gift quality. Whether the price is right for you is a matter of personal decision, but this made an extremely impressive visual gift whose contents were just interesting enough to make it seem fairly exotic as well. KGHarris, 5/12.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program So yeah, I too really liked the presentation and I thought the basket was cool. The price ranges as too expensive, but more importantly since I did not pay for it, most products for me just did not taste good. I liked Girardelli, I liked Jelly Beans, I do not think I liked anything else, not even salmon. In short, looks like very nice gift, but I did not feel it would be after I tasted it.

McCormick Grill Mates Marinades

Grill Mates Marinade, Garlic Herb and Wine, 0.87-OunceI used this rub for the first time about 3 weeks ago. I saw it in the store and decided to try it since I LOVE BBQ and trying new spices. I used it on a tri-tip that I was planning on smoking later in the evening. I rubbed the tri-tip down with garlic olive oil and gave it a light-medium coating of this rub, threwe it in a gladlock bag, and let it marinate in the fridge for about 3 hours. I got my Big Steel Keg up to about 300 degrees and threw 4 chunks of hickory wood on the lump. Put the tri-tip on over direct heat this time because I like my to have a little bit of the char flavor vs just plain indirect smoking(for this meat anyways). I left it on for about 1.5 hours or so(don't remember the exact time because I do not BBQ by time but I would guess around this time). I took it off and let it rest for about 10 minutes. I have to say this was by far the best tri-tip I have ever made/had. This rub gets two thumbs up from me. I just ordered the 10pk from Amazon with free prime shipping. I just noticed that they have a Memphis flavor "slow and low" rub as well that I will try next time.

This is the greatest marinade. I have used on chicken, pork chops, shrimp. It gives a dynamic flavor to your food. Highly recommend. Hard to find in stores. Thank you Amazon for this product !!!

As a marinade, it does exactly what you expect mesquite to do: slightly spicy, smoky, sweet, delicious. Just follow the directions.

One of the things I love to do with this is mix a packet or two into a cup or two of plain bread crumbs, dip boneless chicken breasts or thighs into beaten egg and into the breadcrumb/marinade mixture and bake in a baking dish covered with foil (350 oven, about 45-50 minutes). Easy, moist chicken, wonderful flavor.... did I mention easy? I serve this to company over brown rice and they rave about the perfectly blended flavors.

After all, sometimes, grilling requires too much attention, and I'd rather drop a dish in the oven and wait for the timer to go off while I prepare other food or just hang out with my guests.

I love these things, and I couldn't find them in the grocery store anymore. It was great being able to buy them in bulk. They add so much flavor to just a simple grilled chicken breast. They're fantastic for living single and not having the time to cook. The mesquite is by far my favorite.

This marinade is terrific for barbecued chicken and steak, and the powder can also be mixed with mayonnaise to make your own chipotle-flavored spread.

It's our favorite-better even than Mesquite-and our family and friends love it. I was thrilled to see it available at Amazon, because our local grocery stores often don't carry it.

Pompeian Red Wine Vinegar, 32oz.

Pompeian Red Wine Vinegar, 32oz.I have been trying to find a decent red wine vinegar for a long time. I had been using Nakano Italian Herb wine vinegar but since it contained HFCS, I wanted to find a better vinegar. Cooks Illustrated had rated red wine vinegars in a recent airing and this was one of the top two that came out for best tasting. Was not too acidic and had the taste like it was made from a decent red wine.

I think I will be using this vinegar all the time now.
