Roland French Aged Red Wine Vinegar, 33.8 oz

Yes, many search for a substitute for Dessaux Fils Vinegar, out of business for years, once Julia Childs' only vinegar, with a perfectly aged and balanced flavor and virtually zero vinegar edge. The Roland review that recommends their aged red wine vinegar as a substitute for Dessaux Fils is off the mark. The Roland is fine, but at 7% acidity, it is closer to the Italian style and much too harsh. The closest we have found is Dutour Red Wine Vinegar (Aged in Wood). At 6%, it is almost as smooth and balances at Dessaux Fils.

For many years, I used Dessaux wine vinegar exclusively. I am glad to say that Roland French Aged Red Wine Vinegar is a fine substitute and once again, I enjoy making my own salad dressing. I was a bit anxious to order vinegar on line but the packaging was more than adequate I was impressed.

After losing Dessaux Fils vinegar on the market here in the New York region, I searched for several years for a replacement. The Roland works despite its expense, but it is worth every penny, if you want an authentic French vinaigre. Stuff it full of fresh tarragon and pour away.

DELiCiA Chocolate Truffles with Fine Italian Chocolate

I was very pleasantly surprised by the flavor of these truffles. They are among THE best chocolates I've had (and I don't like grocery store chocolate much at all...). The milk chocolate has a wonderful light center with crispies in it; the hazelnut flavor in the one in gold foil is very mildbut good; the dark chocolate with the dark chocolate nibs was the biggest surprise. I usually don't like chocolate that is any darker than chocolate chipsbut this had a really good deep chocolate flavor, with the nibs being a pleasant addition. I will order these againfor gifts now that I've road-tested them :)

Update: reordered these, and one of the containers was badly damaged/broken. Not enough protective packing materialsthe cardboard holder at the bottom was placed on top of the package, so damage happened during packing processnot during shipment.
