Australian Cabernet Sauvignon (Selection International)

Australian Cabernet SauvignonFor many years Cabernet Sauvignon has been an extremely popular wine. The Selection International wine kit from Winexpert produces an extremely worthy rendition of this wine. This is no surprise. Having made at least 40 batches of wine from kits over the past six years or so I have never been disappointed with those I have made from the Selection International series. The Cabernet Sauvignon is no exception. It's an extremely smooth and mellow wine with an excellent bouquet and a great deal of complexity.

Moreover, like all the wines in the Selection International series, it's easy to make. The five-step process (which takes six to eight weeks from the initial mixing to bottling) is straightforward and takes about four hours' time altogether. (This includes the sanitizing of the equipment and cleanup.) Plus, Selection International wine kits include easy to affix (and remove) labels. If you follow the easy-to-understand directions, you'll almost certainly be successful in producing a wine that you'll be proud to serve or give as a gift.

Saag's Beef Salami Thueringer 3lb

Saag's Beef Salami Thueringer 3lbThis salami is my favorite, but I can't find it in local stores except in small 6-oz pre-sliced packages. Excellent, mild flavor and perfect texture. I bought an electric meat slicer just for this salami. I'm really looking forward to it being available on Amazon.

This all beef salami is the very best that I've ever eaten. It took me over 5 years in order to find this outstanding product. It's almost impossible to find salami that doesn't have pork in it.

Saag gets and "A" for effort in their commitment to meat products that are MSG free and low on artifical additives and fillers.

I was very surprised and disappointed that this commitment did not translate to Great Taste for me.

This item was not advertized as a Kosher Salami, so I did not expect it to be Kosher.

I have tried other Salami manufacturers who were Kosher and those products may or may not have been MSG or filler free but they tasted much better to me.

This Salami tasted like a very Salty Beef Jerky which was not the taste I was looking for.

Reggie's Roast Kenya AA Whole Bean Coffee, 12-Ounce Cans (Pack of 3)

Reggie's Roast Kenya AA Whole Bean Coffee, 12-Ounce CansUnusual packaging, but quite convenient and useful, in practice. Terrific, delicious Kenya coffee for a nice price! BTW, I drink a lot of coffee, and Kenya is one of my "top 5" varietals, so I have so experience in this area. Give it a tryI think you'll not be disappointed.

This is a wonderful Kenyan coffee! But to get the full benefit you need to be forewarned that to enjoy this coffee to the fullest you will have to use more ground beans per pot than you are used to with other beans. The reason, is that these beans are very delicate and light they don't have the oil content of say Columbian or Guatemalan beans so you most likely will have to increase the amount of grind per pot of coffee by about a third or you will miss the full flavor and delicate balance of this wonderful gourmet roast.

Once you get the measurements right this coffee will most-likely become your favorite. It sure became my favorite to the exclusion of all others!

I hope you guys are joking with these 5 star reviews. I bought this based on the reviews and it was the stalest, most bitter whole bean coffee I've ever used. One of the canisters was open on arrival but there was literally no difference between the aromas of the sealed cans and the open can. What does that say about the freshness of the sealed cans? You can seal it tight as a drum but if the coffee sat around and got stale before it was canned then all the vacuum in the world won't help it. Then I couldn't get that stale aroma/flavor out of my grinder without thoroughly cleaning it. I don't know what you guys are used to drinking but this isn't worth 1/4 of the price regardless of how much it costs. If you think this is 5 stars then check out RONA, which Amazon carries. Their Jamaican Blue Mountain Peaberry is without peer. Compare their Kenya AA Superior Peaberry to this swill and you will know what premium coffee is supposed to taste like. This is a perfect example of gettting what you pay for.

Blue Star Farms Organic Stoned Ground Rye and Flax Crackers, 5-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Blue Star Farms Organic Stoned Ground Rye and Flax Crackers, 5-Ounce BoxesI gave these 3 stars because I really like the flavor of these crackers, but as stated in many of the other reviewers' comments, they don't hold up in shipping, so for the packaging, I would only give them about 1 star. I actually purchased 18 boxes (3 cases), 6 each of the 3 flavors and I had to open all 18 boxes to just get enough "whole" crackers for my guests (8 people) for Thanksgiving appetizers. I could only get about 6-8 crackers per box that were not broken literally into crumbs. I did, however, contact the factory and they were very apologetic and said they will address the problem and offered to send me additional boxes. Hopefully these will arrive in better condition and they will get the problem resolved, because I would love to keep purchasing these crackers.

I have tried a lot of "natural" crackers. This is my favorite. The crackers are crunchy but not too hard. The flavor is not so bland that you have to eat the crackers with something else, but it's also light enough that it pairs well with cheese and spreads.

I got a huge box of organic stone ground wheat crackers/stone ground rye & flax crackers combo deal from Costco, but apparently they don't carry the brand anymore, which is too bad. These crackers taste great, and the best thing about them is that they don't seem to get soggy once the bag has been opened. They also pack smaller individual bags in one box, so you don't have to try to finish one big bag all at once. They seem to stay fresh and crunchy for quite some time after the bag has been opened, and the taste doesn't seem to change much, either.

I just got these crackers in a sample pack from blissmobox and WOW they are really really good. I don't like rye flavor so I thought I wouldn't like these but my husband said I had to try them and he was right, I don't taste the rye hardly at all and they are really tasty. I plan on buying them off Amazon now.

I love rye. Several years ago I always purchased rye crackers in a grocery store and they were discontinued. I thought these might be similar and they are not. They do not even taste like rye. Also they are very very hard. Do not waste your money. I am giving them away or throwing the other boxes out.

Rose Petal Jam Andresy All natural French jam pure sugar cane 9 oz jar Confitures a l'Ancienne

Rose Petal Jam Andresy All natural French jam pure sugar cane 9 oz jar Confitures a l'Ancienne, OneMy family is an avid fan of products made from roses. We have tried a variety rose jams and jellies, but this product was the worst by far. While not overly sweet or overpowering, the rose flavor is nearly undetectable without using an overabundance of jam. Although the packaging is pleasing, we will not be recommending or purchasing this product again. Very disappointed in quality.

Totally cool. It screams delectible and is the most marian of flowers..roses. It is a small for simple tea, because it's gone thru so much sale and exportation.

Reserve Du Chateau 4 Week Wine Kit, Italian Sangiovese, 17.5-Pound Box

Reserve Du Chateau 4 Week Wine Kit, Italian Sangiovese, 17.5-Pound BoxHave tried many wine kits from this manufacturer. All kits are complete with labels, corks and the ingredients needed. Instructions are very easy to follow. Does make a good wine. Don't rush the process, once I get to the clearing process, I'll rack the wine several times to make sure all of the sediment on the bottom is removed. Don't want it to look like a snow globe, especially with white wines. Enjoy!!!

I am very happy with this wine in a box kit. Sure there are more expensive products available but for the dollar paid I get a very drinkable vino. I use this as my house/table red and am quite satisfied. I add 1/2 cup of toasted american oak chip to the initial batch and let it age for 3 months and end up with a quality chianti style wine that my grandfather would have been proud to serve at his table. Using the ship and save makes it a cheaper end result in the glass. You will not regret buying this box kit, just remember that time and care make a better vino. ;) salute!

Reserve Du Chateau 6 Week Wine Kit, Italian Pinot Grigio, 55-Pound Container

Reserve Du Chateau 6 Week Wine Kit, Italian Pinot Grigio, 55-Pound ContainerThis kit contains 6 gallons of juice--not a concentrate. It is so easy to make, and it appears to be a great wine. I will need to age it for a year to be sure of the wine, but it sure does look good.

Of course you can buy higher quality wine kits but they cost a lot more. For $3 per bottle this is positively the best pinot grigio I ever tasted. It's light fruity and slightly acidic & has a good mouth feel. Definitely not that astringent stump water of the same name that you find in grocery stores.

Frankly I wasn't expecting much for the price so I'm a bit surprised. I think of this variety as a strictly 'summer' wine. It will be a winner at any backyard bbq birthday or anniversary that happens to occur. I bottled 24 in wine bottles & put the balance in recycled beer bottles. Beer bottles are more convenient for camping trips. The best people in America are to be found in campgrounds during summer and this wine should make a nice ice breaker while meeting new friends.

April 14 six weeks from start tried my first beer bottle of this wine. Dominant smells and taste are citrus and banana. As a rule banana is not approved in my list of smells/flavors. Can't tolerate an artificial pretense. But this banana is real and not over expressed. Just enough of the real deal to be noticable. As I implied in the first instance this wine screams for a summer evening outdoor party. Pool party BBQ whatever. For the love of God get on with it. You still have time. Buy it. Do it. I'm astonished at the quality vs stuff I ever bought before.

The kit is good. My wife and I drink a lot of Pinot Grigio at meals, etc and this one came out pretty well. I say pretty well because I think I discovered something with a subsequent kit....the chitosan and kielesol used to clarify the wine leave a chemical taste. I used it in the first batch of this wine and we can taste it, but the wine itself is very good.

I say first batch because I am buying another kit and using something else for finings...possibly will experiment with gelatin or something. The reason? Right after doing this kit I did another kit and decided to try leaving out the chitosan and kielesol and the wine came out really REALLY good....2 1/2 cases evaporated once my friends tried it. So I think I will either leave it out in the future or try gelatin, bentonite, or something else.

Back to this kit....

I ran the initial fermentation for 3 weeks, then secondary for 2 weeks. I then fined it and let it sit for about 3 more weeks. I then ran it through my Vin Brite filter into bottles, and went out of town. My wife called me to say, "Not bad!", and liked it enough to drink it relatively soon after bottling.

So it passes muster for the grapes and kit in general, but I think I want to either use something else for fining or try letting it settle for a month and then filtering it into the bottles. This after, of course, initial and secondary fermentation with transfer to a carboy once or twice to help clarify it some.

Made this wine and aged it 3 months. Thought I would give it a try and it was delicious. Between myself, friends and family, I am down to my last bottle and it hasn't even been 6 months.

6/30/2013

I made the 6 gallon Cabernet kit and that turned out great too. Now I just started another pinot grigio. I'm going to try to age this one a little more.... if I can keep my family and friends away from it.
