The Savannah Bee Company 100% Pure Sourwood Honey Flute

The Savannah Bee Company 100% Pure Sourwood Honey FluteI have tried all the current (as of 12/08) varieties of honey that the Savannah Bee Company has to offer. Some I like more than others, but what never changes is the high quality of the honey itself. Any honey lover will appreciate the quality of this honey. This is not the stuff you buy at a grocery store!

Varities offered by national honey producers pale in comparison with the depth of flavor and the raw, fresh from the hive thickness of this honey.

Its worth the price for anyone that can appreciate the difference.

I really like the flavor of this honey. To me, it tastes like anise or fennel (a nice, light licorice flavor). It pours really well from the flute-shaped bottle. I have given this honey as a gift, used it as a syrup on french toast, and cooked it into a Honey-Jager BBQ sauce with some organic apple cider vinegar and a shot of Jagermeister. I've used the sauce on pork ribs and also for dipping eggrolls.

I have only tried the raw Sourwood honey from Savannah Bee Company but I have had 35+ years of experience eating and tasting sourwood honey throughout the SE United States. I lived in Blue Ridge, GA on the Tocca River and had Sourwood trees on my property. The sourwood honey I received from Savannah Bee Company was like no other sourwood honey I have ever tasted. It was actually sour on the initial taste, then bitter on the after taste. It was thick and a rather dark amber color. Anyone that knows sourwood honey knows it is not supposed to be sour. I have never experienced bitter honey before in my life. A small amount of the honey had leaked in the packaging during shipment making unpacking a messy affair. I give this honey 1 star only because there is no lower ranking. If you are thinking about buying this product do yourself a favor and buy from another sourwood producer as well, then taste for yourself the difference.

Cypress Grove, Humboldt Fog Cheese (8oz or 1lb)

Cypress Grove, Humboldt Fog CheeseThis cheese is a favorite in our family, but not usually accessible in our area. This was a gift, a nice surprise and a big hit.

Humboldt Fog is expensive, but worth it! Irresistible flavor, and if it weren't that expensive, I'd buy it once a week and gain 20 pounds.

Humboldt Fog is definitely Cyprus groves best cheese. Its flavor is not for everybody though. It has a light acidity due to the vegetable ash. I like it best after it has aged for a couple of weeks and begins to soften around the rind while remaining crumbly in the middle . This is NOT a blue cheese as other members have stated, so do not expect a blue cheese flavor or texture. It is a soft ripened cheese, the same process used to make cheeses like brie and camembert. The blue that you see in the middle and rind of the cheese is actually vegetable ash. Back in the day the ash was used to cover the morning milk curds until the evening milk curds could be added. Check out Cypress grove website for more info on all their great cheeses.

This is not a value proposition cheese. I buy a supermarket brand chevre priced at eight dollars a pound and I do not think this cheese is 3X better. In fact, in some respects that cheaper cheese is better because it has that "straight from the goat" freshness to it. Yet Humboldt Fog is an excellent cheese. I find the best way to eat it is to find a very plain cracker (not a saltine!), cut off a small bit of cheese and spread it very thinly. This brings out the aged flavor. Great cheese, not cheap.

This is some of the best American-made cheese I've had, as are several other Cypress Grove cheeses. Cypress Grove is easily on par with high-end French cheeses, but that does not mean it's a straight rip-off from some traditional regional French recipe: just as American craft beer brewers have taken the Belgian and German traditions as a basis to create their own variants, creameries like Cypress Grove are coming up with novel varieties.

So what does it taste like? Well, first of all, the basis for this cheese is a creamy chèvre, that is, goat cheese in the French style. It is aged as a whole wheel, so the texture is different on the outside than on the inside. On the inside, what you find is more like an aged French chèvre, whereas toward the outside, it almost approaches the consistency of a goat Gouda. Then there is white mold on the outside (think Brie, Camembert), a subtle hint of blue mold (think Rocquefort, Danish Blue) further in, and in the middle, an ingredient identified only as "vegetable ash." Whatever it is, it's tasty. But not in a "wow I guess this is good but now I cannot taste anything else for a half hour" sort of way. It's just the right amount of subtle.

If you ever want to demonstrate to a Frenchman that Americans can make good cheese, feed them some Humboldt Fog. If they still protest, that's just snobbery.

Deli Direct Cheese Spread - Port Wine (2 Pack of 15oz. Containers) w/ FREE Sleeve of Crackers

Deli Direct Cheese Spread - Port Wine w/ FREE Sleeve of CrackersMy mother used to buy Port Wine Cheese spread for me after tasting it when I was around 10 years old. I always loved it on crackers or wheat toast. It is hard to find a good Port Wine cheese spread that is well mixed and not to strong in one place. This one is quite nicely mixed and the size is generous. Two 15oz with a box of nice tasty crackers. It spreads quite nice even though it came out the fridge. The items were packed securely and still cold upon arrival. I feel I got a decent value for this item when I go to the store a 5-8 oz port wine cheese is about 3-4 dollars. I get a lot more for my money and I appreciate that. If the price stays the same I will order again. :)

Vino Italiano 4 Week Wine Kit, White Merlot, 5.1 Liter

Vino Italiano 4 Week Wine Kit, White Merlot, 5.1 LiterI have been making wine kits since 2004 at the rate of 1 kit per week. I have been buying mostly the Wine Expert/Vintners Reserve kit. These are very good kits. I thought I would try the Vino Italiano kit as the Wine Expert are getting pretty pricey.I couldn't believe for $44 you could get the corks, labels, etc.PLUS the kit.The 1st thing i noticed when making the kit was how the thicker consistency of the juice, this explains the smaller 15.5 ounce package (more concentrated). This kit requires an extra racking but makes the wine clear up much faster than the Vintners. When I tried this Merlot before bottling I was so surprised at the flavor. It is a drier white which I prefer. The body is comparable to any I have made and I liked it so much I subscribed to once a month delivery and saved an additional 15%-unbelievable!I have also tried the Riesling, very good as well. I now have a Pinot Chardonnay, Valpolicella, and a Merlot going and expect them to be just as good. These are the best deal for price and quality I have found to date and will continue to use these as long as they are available at this price!

I really like these wine making kits. I've been making wine since the 80's,and these kits are the greatest. I've been amazed by some reviewer's complaints. Come on now,do you really think that all of the equipment for wine making would be include in a $44 kit? You will need about $200 worth of equipment to start, but after that these kits will make a great wine for $2 to $3 dollars a bottle. Pay no attention to those who think they know wine ,while criticizing the juices. I've often filled expensive bottles with this wine as a test for supposed wine experts. They have never noticed! Take all reviews (including this one) with a grain of salt. But ,if you want a really good easy to make wine, try these kits. Just don't forget to let it age for a very minimum of 1 year before tasting.

A light blush table wine, this kit was a hit with friends and family this Christmas. Two and a half cups of cane sugar were added prior to bottling. Alcohol content was approximately 12%. Flavor best when served very lightly chilled.
