SHAOHSING RICE COOKING WINE 2x750ML

As a once diligent student of Szechuwan style cooking, I gladly traveled to NYC Chinatown to obtain this precious commodity so essential for re-creating the real dish Shaohsing rice wine (12%). It was four dollars a bottle then but I would pay the $11+ price gladly enough if it could be attained via Amazon. The salted "cooking wine" is not good enough. The old standard applies: "Don't cook with any wine you wouldn't drink." I keep this item on my wishlist in case the unadulterated product is someday available. I almost ordered this in error at first sight. (If you find an online source please let me know.)

Well packaged two bottles, no damage, on time. But the product itself was so nauseatingly salty that it is unusable for any decent cook. This salt content should be shown clearly so a buyer can determine if it is even usable. I have to throw mine out.

While teaching in Linyi, Shandong, China this past spring, I took cooking classes during my spare time. Many of the recipes called for this type of wine. Amazon is the only place I've been able to find it--where I live in the US an Asian grocery store is hours away.

Yes, it's salty, but so is soy sauce and bean paste! I just use common sense. It really makes all the difference in the dishes I make. Glad I found it here on Amazon.

The seller replied to my email and asked for a few days to contact the post office; they notified me that the post office could not find the order and did not know what had happened to it. Puppy Love Care Package Chocolate and Candy Gift Box - Valentine's Day

The puppy love care package was perfect for my daughter's valentine day surprise since she is a new puppy owner. It was so bright and colorful. We enjoyed all of the items and the variety was perfect! It actually had way more than I had imagined. The chocolate covered cherries (whole box) was a nice treat. Vinturi Spirit Aerator

Enjoyed upon receiving. Not a night and day difference, but using with scotch seemed to provide a smoother finish and reduce the "burn" quality (i drink it neat.) HOWEVER, after about 5 uses, pressing the button to release the scotch through the aerator no longer worked! I pressed it several times, to no avail then held it in place to see if it would eventually free itself, also to no avail... poured the scotch into my glass out of the top, so that i could then shake and smack the aerator and the stopper eventually freed itself. But the stopper which appears to be magnetic has not worked well since, and i would inevitably have to smack it a couple of times prior to pouring to get it to work (since you can't smack it while there's anything in the glass.) Anyways, I call the manufacturer for a replacement and I have to pay to ship it to them. They pay return shipping for replacement fair enough but i'm still paying extra for dealing with the hassle. Hopefully the next one will not have this issue, as this seems to be the first mention of this problem. I will update if the next one has this issue.

Take note manufacturers, if YOUR product has a fault and it has inconvenienced a customer for a legitimate reason, consider paying for their shipping to soften the hassle of an exchange.

I had my skepticism, I start with that because if you like what you already drink what could an aerator do to it? Well it does enough for me to keep this little tool out and nearby my good alcohol. I did the old side-by-side non aerated to aerated single shot taste test. For the really cheap clear alcohol all I can say it does is make it have less of a burn while drinking and actually smooths out the after taste to a nice fade off. As for higher end, scotch in my case, I tried a 12 year single malt & a 17 year old single malt. Starting with the 17 year old scotch, this stuff is smooth and great to begin with, the side-by-side test concluded with the aerated scotch being much more floral/aromatic, the after taste was MUCH more enjoyable as it seemed to melt into a buttery feeling and just faded off into bliss.

The 12 year old scotch, it's good on the rocks and a splash of water. With the aerator it turned a 12 year old scotch into a very close 15/16 year old scotch. All the little notes of flavor came to live, I won't way it is perfect but a cheaper bottle of scotch in my cabinet just payed for this little aerator. All the harshness and lingering after taste of the 12 year old scotch, just melted away. Again not on the same level as the 17 year old but pretty darn close. I can put the max of 2 full jiggers, or more :), and know that what comes out will be a nice drink all around.

For the $$, I'd suggest you give this a shot (or 2) if you like to enjoy a fine liquor. I know I will defiantly be keeping this at close hand when making my drink, or drinks for others. I'm very tempted to by a few for some good friends and family to spread the enjoyment. The stopper and release button are NOT mechanical! An ingenious and fool proof design of two opposing magnets creates the opening effect while the weight of the magnet closed the stopper. Truly is machine washable and pretty durable.

I own all the Vinturi Aerators. The red and white wine aerators are amazing, but this one is frustrating, especially in front of company. Why? The button. The workings fail almost every time I go to use it, as the button sticks. I clean and rinse it every time I use it, but I end up having to shake it and force fluid through it trying to get it unstuck. Fatal flaw costed it three stars.

Spirits I've tried with the Vinturi Spirit Aerator: Bowmore Legend, Glenlivet 22 yr, Johnny Walker Blue, Deleon Reposado, Don Julio 1942, Hanger One, Remy Martin XO, Patron Silver, Patron Anejo, Lagavulin 16 yr, Burichladdich 12 yr, Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey, Leopold Bros Rye, Silver Tree, Maker's 46, and Bulleit Rye. Basically, I've tried it with scotch, whiskey, bourbon, vodka, tequila, and cognac. Every single one of these was smoother and had more intricacies after using the Vinturi than without. Now that I am spoiled by what the Vinturi does, I get mad at myself when I am too lazy to grab and use it. The reason I am not giving it five stars is due to the button/plug on the device sticking (the button is pressed to release the plug, allowing the spirit to be aerated). Every once in a while, even after cleaning it after each use, the plug does not open when I press the button. Once the spirit is poured into the Vinturi and the plug does not open, there's nothing left to do than pour the spirit into the glass without aerating it and then pound the Vinturi against my palm to get the plug to unstick. It seems like a common problem and it is quite annoying. However, the Vinturi works well enough to overlook the infrequent annoyance.

Roland Pate, With Port Wine, 2.8-Ounce Jars (Pack of 4)

The pate tastes good. Not great but good. Unfortunately, as also described by another reviewer Eveline Crozier, one out of four jars arrived with a popped lid and with grease smeared all over the four jars.

I wish Amazon would be more consistent with listing food product ingredients. Here they are for this product: Duck, Duck Liver, Pork, Cream (Milk, Cream, Carboxymethyl Cellulose, Guar Gum, Carob Gum, Mono and Diglycerides, Carraghenine), Eggs, Port Wine (Sulphites), Onions, Tapioca Starch, Salt, Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk), Garlic, Pepper, Nutmeg, Sodium Erythorbate, Sodium Nitrite.

I ordered the 4 jars package and it arrived, along with other food items I had ordered, with the 4 jars tossed in a plastic bubble bag that was way too large for these 4 small jars. Result: the jars got knocked about in transit and one of them arrived with a loose top. Of course I don't want to consume a product that has a "popped" pop up button. I have not tasted the paté yet but I wont be ordering it again even if it is good as this is not a refundable item and I will only get to consume 3 out of the 4 jars.

Dried Ziziphus Jujuba (Jujube) Red Dates From Xihé

It's a good product, overall. I use it to make soup with longan, white fungus, and walnuts a traditional Chinese remedy to improve my health. But only later I realized that there was instructions at the back of the bag saying that the dates have to be washed before cooking! Well, anyway.... I 'll just be careful from now on. It's a good product for cooking, but if you want something good for a snack too, this is probably not the best choice.

As stated in the "Legal Disclaimer" for this item at the time of this writing, the product I received is not exactly as the description says. But that's ok, I really just wanted to try them since I'm thinking of planting some jujube trees. I just want an idea of the taste.

They arrived quickly enough, in 5 days or so. The brand I got is "Golden Lion." 12 oz, resealable bag (nice.)

From the back of the bag (paraphrased)...

User Warnings:

1.Raw foodsPlease cook before serving.

2.Do not eat as a snack! Proper handling instructions:

.1.Wash dates with regular tap water for at least 5 minutes.

.2.Place cleaned dates in a pot of boiling water and cook for 15 minutes or until soft.

.3.After dates are cooked, throw in your favorite meats and/or vegetables and let simmer for 35-40 minutes.

Well, great. I didn't want to do all of that, I just wanted to try the things! So I washed them in tap water and tried one. They're sort of like a combination between a raisin and a date, with a taste of spiced apple thrown in. Size-wise they're sort of between a date and a raisin too, with dark red skin and light brown flesh. The pits aren't as big as I expected, being smaller than most olive pits. My girlfriend got a pointy pit and poked her tongue though, so be careful of that.

I was worried they wouldn't taste good, or the pits would be really big and there would be no flesh on them. But they actually taste pretty damn good to me, if a little unusual for American food. Especially considering they're apparently not for snacking. And they have a pretty good pit-to-meat ratio. No bugs, no black spots.

They do have teeny tiny stems, though. I just pluck them off before eating.

I bet they'd be even better in soup.

Oh, and nowhere on the bag does it mention anything about being organic. But I was prepared for that, after reading the other reviews and the disclaimer.

So in all, if you've never tried jujubes and you just want a taste, I'd say go for it. If you want to cook with jujubes, definitely go for it. But if you seriously want an organic snack, I'd look somewhere else.

Now if I can just talk my roommates into letting me plant those trees...

The jujube sent to me was not in the same package as seen on the item's page, which belongs to another brand "Changsi(in Chinese:长思大红枣)". The jujubes are in good conditions and their taste is not bad. Pits are a bit larger than I thought, compared with most jujubes in China.

I bought these to see if my family likes them. We are planning on buying jujube trees this winter. I wanted to buy good quality fruit as well as organic etc.. since this is the only type of food we buy. Description said these are organic and raw (dried at low temps etc..). It was not organic and not raw, nowhere on the package there was even a hint of it being organic or raw, so it was just a dried fruit from china with who knows what added! In fact it said it wasn't raw "washed and sterilized" (it was worded a bit differently: grammatically incorrect, but I don't remember exactly how... something like washed and sterilization....). Taste was ok. I tried a couple. The rest ended up in a trash. If you just want jujube fruit, it was ok. If you want organic jujube, look elsewhere.

I bought this as a Mother's Day gift, not realizing it would have a sticker on it saying it is for Christmas, Hanukkah and Thanksgiving. I know that dried fruit and nuts have a decent shelf life, but in May, this was not an appealing announcement. I did not use it for a gift because of that. My sister and kids ate it and said it was really good, but be warned if you are giving this as a gift because it is definitely Christmas themed and can come across as old. I sent this as a gift to my parents who live out of state. They were excited when they received it, but when they took the dried fruit out of the package the underside was covered with mold. They figured they would give the nuts a try, and when they sampled them they were stale and rancid. Very embarrassing and disappointing!
